Neil C. Johnston, Esq.
Mobile, Alabama
Since receiving the 2003 Education and Outreach Award, Mr. Johnston has continued
to work with the Project C.A.T.E. Foundation and the Mobile Rotary Club to write, program, and produce conservation curriculum CDs. After the success of Ribbit's Big Splash (2000), Johnston and his partners produced and are now distributing Skeeter's Wild Adventures (2008), which focuses on wildlife species and habitat conservation.
Not only is Johnston working with schools on the Coastal Kids Quiz - a scholarship conservation competition for fifth grade students - he has also targeted the real estate community, attorneys, surveyors, the construction industry, road builders and government agencies to educate them on wetlands compliance and regulation, as well as on related wetland, water, and stormwater issues.
Outside of his educational efforts, Mr. Johnston has worked with local, state, and federal partners to plan the now-completed restoration of Fowl River/Mobile Bay, as well as to build fish reefs in the Bay, and to revise coastal regulations in Alabama to, among other things, recognize and allow living shorelines and innovative shoreline erosion control efforts.
