Robert Eugene Turner

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Photo by Camilla SaufleyDr. Turner, the 1998 Science Research Award Winner, continues publishing his wetland restoration findings in scientific papers and edited volumes, while also employing his research through his service on several regional, national, and international wetland committees, including the International Wetland Symposium.

Currently, Turner is striving to encourage the state of Louisiana to employ more scientific mitigation approaches that are less reliant on heavy engineering. He remains outspoken about the local and regional impacts of dredging canals and creating spoil banks in wetlands, and continues to study the influence of hurricanes on the sediment delivery to the Gulf Coast.
